If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then this day is for
you!
The Community Engagement and Museums - Practitioner's Day is aimed at
museum professionals already engaged in museum community work within a
social inclusion context. The day aims to create a forum where ideas
can be shared, along with best practice to explore and debate the future
of community engagement in the museum and galleries sector.
Confirmed chair for the Practitioner's day is Jocelyn Dodd: Director of
the Research Centre for Museums and Galleries at the Department of
Museums Studies in University of Leicester.
Workshops in the afternoon include:
Workshop 1 Does community engagement really influence museum
practice?
How much control do we allow communities to have?
Are communities embedded in collections and permanent
displays?
Workshop 2 Museums are good for you - measuring the un-measurable?
Exploring generic social outcomes, generic learning
outcomes and other indicators.
Workshop 3 Museum practitioners are not social workers - discuss
Museums linking into bigger social agendas.
Workshop 4 What you lookin' at?
Who's representing who?
Workshop 5 Networking - Who is your phone a friend?
Do we need to stick together?
Workshop 6 Funding - getting your piece of the pie.
Community related funding - making things happen.
