medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear colleagues,
I am translating some Florentine synodal enactments about vanity of
clothing & appearance. One text refers to false hair. It forbids use of::
zazzerris, casciettis, seu rigottis vel triciis.
Thus far I have:
locks, casciettis, coils or plaits.
I cannot find anything like casciettis even in Du Cange. Would anyone
recognize the term or something like it?
BTW the decree does permit women whose hair is inadequately thick to use
cloth to supplement.
