Dear Sarah
If you want real reproduction cloth then contact Riitta Sinkkonen-Davies, an
incredibly talented weaver based in west Wales. she produced the textiles
used in the Shakespeare Birthplace reconstruction. I have worked with her on
several high quality projects for European museums including the Hochdorf
"prince" burial chamber and the Sutton Hoo Ship Burial.

If Riitta is too expensive for your project - but then she is the best! Try
Cotswold Woollen Weavers at Filkins mill.
Tel 01367 860491
They also have a website and will weave lengths of cloth to order (min. I
think is 70m, but they do sometimes have end of loom lengths. I recently
bought some lovely lozenge twill for an Iron Age project from them.
Personally I would not buy from Herts Fabrics as too often their cloth is
"curtain" type material and contains synthetic fibres.
With respect to Anne Laverick, she is a merchant and costumier and has to
put a mark up on her sales. Go direct to the weavers and you get a better
deal!
Best regards
Julie Douglass

Try Herts Fabrics (01707-265815) or Anne Laverick (01977-677390).
Best wishes,

Subject: Repro Cloth
Dear All,
I am urgently trying to source a reproduction of 16th-century kersey cloth,
the kind woven on two man looms. I have tried a couple of costume companies
without any success.
Can anyone suggest a supplier?
Thanks for your help!
Kind Regards,
Sarah
