Thanks to member contributions and corrections. My excel sheet now
stands at n=84 programs (excluding architecture except where the faculty
includes design as department). Note that design affiliations to (or
ownership by) architecture and engineering mean a boundary needs to be
drawn, which I attempt to do here. So really the point (for this survey)
is which institutions explicitly commit to design as a discipline in the
name of their degree or degree focus. I note the absence of Eastern
Europe so far (I'm happy working with Russian language if that is an
issue). Also if list members do have new information can they also
include a URL that links to the program (either English version or most
European languages I can manage - not scandinavian languages
unfortunately). One interesting issue that has arisen is the presence of
design PhDs in two units of one university - often a humanities versus
science/engineering option. I am only listing by institutions at the
moment. Also note that some institutions only offer one discipline
specific degree (e.g. DCD). Many institutions links to 1) their handbook
(pdf or html) and this is great 2) link to recent completions and this
also helps. If yours doesn't maybe this is something to think about.
