Perhaps the easiest way of relating National Grid and County Series sheet
numbers is to use the 1:100,000 county index maps published by Ordnance
Survey c. 1968. These are subtitled " Index showing sheet lines of the
1:2,500 county series related to the National Grid", and have the NG 1 km
grid and reduced one-inch topographic detail printed in black, with county
boundaries and county series sheet lines overprinted in red. We have only
the sheets for counties in the West Midlands region here. I would expect
copyright libraries to hold these maps, and main libraries in Kent (or
further afield) may have the Kent sheet.

Subject: Re: 1:2500 O.S. map references
Dear Alan,
The enquiry came from a member of the public and not from the
acadamic community here. He had a longish list of 1:2500 maps in
which he was interested:
Maidstone, Canterbury, Sheerness and Sevenoaks (specifically the 1950s). If
you think the University of Worcester Library can help, I will suggest he
forwards his inquiry.
We have none from this decade. We would be interested in any spare Kent
sheets, especially for East Kent.
Yours sincerely,
Helen Jarvis
Having said that, our collection of old OS maps for Kent is very patchy and
if you do have some that are surplus to requirements we would be grateful
to receive them.

I may have some of these in our collection which are suroplus to
requirements. Unfortunately, I am on long term sick leave at present and
so cannot get to them. Give me grid references and I could get someone
else to explore.

I have been asked if we hold OS 1:2500 maps published in the 1950s, and
given TR and TQ grid references.
Although we don't have them, we do have some published in the 1930s which
may be of interest, but they have a different numbering system (Roman
numerals + NE, SW, etc.). Is there any way of determining the corresponding
sheet no.
for the earlier series, other than a rough guess?
