Anyone looking for costumes, reproduction artifacts, etc. should be aware of
Call to Arms, the main re-enactment directory, available from
www.calltoarms.com. Despite the rather garrulous tone of the publisher,
which makes me wince, it's a pretty comprehensive source for finding both
re-enactors and suppliers of interesting bits.
It doesn't give recommendations, of course. If you have time, drop in to one
of the re-enactors' markets, where a fair cross-section of suppliers will be
represented, and you can get a good look at their wares. The next two big
ones are at Rockingham Castle on 5th, 6th, 7th May 2007 (details on the Call
to Arms website) and Ryton on Dunsmore, near Coventry, on 16th, 17th and
18th March - http://www.reenactorsmarket.co.uk/. The latter is purely a
suppliers' event, designed for internal consumption. There are no actual
re-enactments, but it's probably the one to visit if you want bits.
And if you want musical instruments, just email me :-)
