i did a little study of this building, at the beginning of my art hysterical
career and my memories of it have been in Deep Storage for many decades, in
Banks which have probably gone under long ago.
it might have belonged to the cathedral Chapter, rather than the Bishop
himself; but there was some sort of strong connection, because the smaller
building is a kind of minature copy of what was then (1160s or so) going up
just across the river at the cathedral (St. Julien is just a stone's throw
from the river, on the left bank).
i cannot recall whether or not it was extant as an institution in Abelard's
day, but believe it was --i certainly have no memory of it being a _de novo_
foundation in the third quarter of the 12th c.
