Assistant Curator of Science Learning
37 hrs/week £18,560 rising to £22,422 pa + benefits
York Museums Trust is an independent charitable organisation created to
manage the York Castle Museum, Yorkshire Museum & Gardens, York St Mary’s
and York Art Gallery. We are looking for an imaginative, dynamic person
who is passionate about science to develop and deliver exciting and
innovative science learning programmes for York Museums Trust. Based at
the Yorkshire Museum, you will lead school workshops and family activities
on the museum galleries, in our purpose built education room The Lab, and
outside in the Museum Gardens. You will also work with the curatorial team
on new exhibitions.
The learning programmes and family activities will spring from, and be
supported by, the comprehensive science collections at York Museums Trust
which include geology, natural history, palaeontology, astronomy and
scientific instruments. Experience of teaching, in a formal or informal
setting, is required.

This post is funded by the Renaissance Yorkshire Regional Museums Hub, a
partnership of the museum services of Bradford, Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and
York. The aim of the partnership is to deliver the Yorkshire Hub business
plan, contributing to the government’s national Renaissance agenda for the
transformation of England’s regional museums. Future funding for this role
will be part of the Yorkshire Renaissance Business Plan beyond 2008.
