Hi there,
I am working on the theoretical background of the french communist cinema
criticism between the 20?s and the 40?s (that is, before Andrei Zhdanov
socialist realism) and these e-mails on Béla Balázs reminded me of a 1947
reference to a text, supposedly from him, named ?Dialectic Materialism
applied to Literature?, described as a sort of ?marxist catechism? to
literature and cinema critics.
Although I suspect this text, if it ever existed, is wrongly attributed to
Balázs (perhaps it belongs to Lukács?) I would like to ask if anyone has ever
heard of such a text, just to be sure. And by the way, does anyone know of any
English or French translation of «The Visible Man»?
Since I don?t seem to find many bibliographical references on the theoretical
background of the early french communist cinema criticism, I would also
welcome
any thoughts and suggestions on this subject.
Thank you all,
Paulo Granja
