Hi all,
just went to see Stranger Than Fiction, which opened here in Zurich
last week.
As you know, this fantastic comedy turns around the plot device of
the protagonist (Will Farrell) discovering that he is a character in
a novel the narrator's voice of which (which also happens to be the
author's voice (Emma Thompson)) he keeps on hearing, his life being a
scripted story written from without.
Here's my question: is there an expression, a theoretical term or
concept covering this kind of (impossible) ontological crossing from
textual to diegetic level which includes the sense of reflexivity and
mise-en-abime one gets here?
Thanks for all pointers and suggestions!
Henry
