Images at the Threshold: A Postgraduate Conference on Cinema
19th April 2007
University of Bath, Department of European Studies and Modern Languages
Abstract Deadline: 9th February 2007
CALL FOR PAPERS
Papers are invited from postgraduate research students that explore cinema
as it represents the more evasive of images and experiences, those neither
situated on the inside or the outside of defined parameters - such as the
generic, geographical, conceptual, temporal - but in the overlapping spaces
between.
This may be interpreted in the broadest sense, encompassing (but not
restricted to), aspects of:
- the blurring boundaries between fiction and documentary and avant-garde
practices;
- the liminal images of the conscious and the unconscious, the objective
and the subjective;
- the merging and colliding of cinematic technologies and the texture of
the image;
- the contested interfaces between the body, agency and the artificial;
- lives and experiences in transition, the migratory, the marginal, the
transgressive;
- the temporal merging of pasts, presents and futures, of memory and the
imaginary;
Abstracts of 250 words are invited for contributions of 20 minutes. This is
an opportunity for postgraduate students to present their work in a
friendly, supportive environment. We welcome papers from researchers
working in the widest of disciplines, who are keen to engage their work
with those working in the area of Film Studies.
Abstracts should be emailed to [log in to unmask] by 9th
February 2007.
