medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Today (22. March) is the feast day of:
Paul of Narbonne (d. c. 290) Gregory of Tours tells that Paul was
sent with several other missionaries from Rome to evangelize Gaul.
Paul settled down in the Narbonne area and worked peacefully at
converting people for the rest of his life.
Domitius of Caesarea and companions (d. 361) A discourteous saint.
Legend tells that Domitius was a Phrygian. Perhaps in Caesarea, he
attended a religious ceremony that was headed by Emperor Julian (the
Apostate) and disrupted it with his mockery. He was beheaded,
perhaps with 4 others.
Felix of Montecassino (d. c. 1000) Felix was an ordinary monk of
Montecassino. But in his case there was a series of miracles at his
tomb (in Chieti), so the bishop had his relics enshrined.
