1 CyMAL

1.1 Grants

1.1.1 Small Grants
Applications can be made anytime during the year, using the normal
application form, for grants to deal with unforeseen eventualities such as
disaster recovery, or emergency treatment for new acquisitions. Funds will
be allocated on a 'first come first served' basis. Applications for Museums
and Galleries Month projects, attendance on training courses and conference
bursaries should be made under the Small Grants Scheme. Travel costs to
attend courses can be included.

1.2 Training
The CyMAL Professional Development programme for 2006-07 is now online at
http://www.cymal.wales.gov.uk/event/index.html Courses are free of charge
and are open to staff working in the Museum, Archive and Library sector in
Wales. If you would like to book a place on any of our events please
complete an online booking form. Further training events will be added to
the calendar as details are finalised.

In addition to the scheduled events, we can provide courses, tailored to
requirements, which can be delivered in-house or in partnership with other
organisations in your area. For further information, please contact Denise
Lavis on (01970) 610227 / mailto:[log in to unmask] or Tom Cosson
on (01970) 610229 / mailto:[log in to unmask]

1.3 Welsh Museums survey
In 2002 CMW carried out a survey of museum provision in Wales 'Mapping
Museums'. This is the only known survey to have gathered both qualitative
and quantitative data about museum provision in Wales. CyMAL plan to repeat
the survey to see what changes have occured. We want to use the results to
help Museums in Wales improve standards and increase user numbers.

2 WELSH ASSEMBLY GOVERNMENT
2.1 Free entry to Welsh castles on St David's Day
The Welsh Assembly Government will be lowering the drawbridge to some of
Wales' historic monuments and letting visitors in for free on March 1st to
celebrate our national day and the official opening of the new Assembly
Debating Chamber in Cardiff. On St David's Day, entry to 12 of Cadw's
properties will be free. Those historic monuments participating are
Beaumaris Castle, Caernarfon Castle, Castell Coch, Conwy Castle, Harlech
Castle, Caerleon Roman Fortress Baths, Caerphilly Castle, Chepstow Castle,
Raglan Castle, Tintern Abbey, Kidwelly Castle and St David's Bishop's

3 DCMS
Review of Lottery Good Causes Post 2009
The consultation document and questionnaire are available on the DCMS
website at www.lottery2009.culture.gov.uk
<http://www.lottery2009.culture.gov.uk> accompanied by information detailing
what Lottery funding has achieved to date and what the distributors think it
should be used to fund in the future.

present and future...http://www.mgm.org.uk/

4.1 Publicity
Promoting the range of participation in MGM2006 through the media is crucial
to the overall success of the campaign and will also give your events some
added publicity at a national level. As well as registering your events on
our website as early as possible and badging them "MGM" we would encourage
you to:
	1.	Include the standard paragraph below in any press
information you are sending out relating to events and activities for
MGM2006
	2.	Send press information about the events you are holding to
Victoria Harris, [log in to unmask]
<mailto:[log in to unmask]>, so that this can be included in press
information being sent out to national and specialist media. Do bear in mind
that Colman Getty will be talking to all sections of the media - from
education and travel to arts and features
	3.	If you do not have your own PR resource, look at the media
toolkit at www.mgm.org.uk we have produced to give you ideas and tips about
how to engage your local and regional media and use the theme of the month
effectively. You will also find a range of templates that can be used to
produce information to send out to the media
http://www.mgm.org.uk/newsflash_06/news_07.html

4.2 Bilingual Template print designs
An inspiring design by Red Stone has been adopted as our theme for MGM 2006.
As well as using the MGM logo, please use these templates in your MGM
promotional print. On the website, you will find A4 and A5 designs to be
used as posters and flyers, and a DL design with an accompanying paragraph
about MGM to use for your DL leaflets. These templates are also available
