This is probably true of the door where Luther
posted the 95 theses. This door was commonly
used for notices of events at the U of Wittenberg
in 1517. (Of course, other notices may have
been placed there, too.) Since the theses were
a proposal for a seminar in theology, the door
was the logical place to put them. My assumption
is that the recently established university used
this door for notices because that was where
notices usually went; but now I'm surmising,
pure and simple.
