Hello All,
I thought I should just flag up that at the end of next year a new KS1
website about the Fire of London will be produced in partnership from
The Museum of London, The Fire Brigade Museum, National Portrait Gallery
and London Metropolitian Archives, as part of Hub developments.

With my teacher's hat on I would like to add that most Primary teachers
find these topics very difficult to work through. They either use KS3
resources
(honestly!) and baffle the kids or rush through the topics and baffle
the kids. I've just been sent on an INSET day where a very enthusiastic
consultant suggested tying in Florence Nightingale with modern
experiences of hospital visits and nurses, that way the kids can see
that things were different in the past and start to work out why they
changed. For the Great Fire the link would obviously be to modern fire
services as well as the science aspect of which types of materials are
the most flammable.
Hope this inspires you all to find the links in your collections.

Subject: Florence Nightingale and Great Fire of London
Hello all
I wonder if anyone can help...
I have had a lot of requests lately from Year 2 teachers enquring
whether we can assist in the delivery of Florence Nightingale and The
Great Fire of London (I assume to support these two QCA units).
It is not something we have done before, merely as we did not think our
collections could support these topic areas! And the fact we may end up
spreading ourselves too thinly may be detrimental rather than
constructive...
Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone offers any sessions, loans boxes
or teachers packs that they have developed independently of your
collections to support these topics?
I realise there are specialist museums that provide these, and it would
be great to have some feedback from those places...however hearing from
places that may have experienced the same problem as me would be
interesting and most grateful, at least to be able to point enquiries in
the right direction!
Many thanks in advance...
