I apologise for bringing up a not-entirely education related issue but
I was shocked to see the wages being offered for the posts at Bede's
World. The current minimum wage for those over 22 years is £5.05 and
the post of Education Assistant with all its requirements is only
£5.52. For such a key role as Volunteer and Community Officer, how
can £15,000 be justified in such a well-established museum?
None of these posts are even close to the salaries recommended by the
Museums Association. For example, Entry level 1 posts are recommended
£14,500 - 17,000 for those with a good degree and a little experience.
I realise the constraints on funds are always present but are there
other museums still paying their staff so little but expecting so
much?
All the best,
Tehmina
