We normally use Lucozade for GTTs but have a patient tomorrow who claims
to be unable to tolerate this. We have managed to obtain Polycal in
powder form. I was going to base it on the pack insert which claims 96g
carbohydrate per 100g powder. Does anyone use this regularly and have a
protocol you can share?
Some of my uncertainty is based on the fact that there are multiple
references on the net to using 113 ml of the liquid form (including the
national lab medicine portal). According to BNF, the liquid contains
61.9 g carbohydrate per 100 ml so that calculates up to 70g carbohydrate
rather than 75g. Is there something which I am missing or is everyone
using the wrong amount?
