So where did 451F. come from? At least one of our GPs is using it (after a
Read code upgrade). Is it a typo which has got into the V8 contract and
what can be done about it?
Regards,
Martin.

For those interested Read codes for stages 1 to 5 CKD are available in V3
and the I believe the SNOMED CT codes are alos available. As the bod who
made the request for the eGFR Read code in the first place I have the
following on file: -
Request New Bounded Code List (BCL) Term
Request Details
Request ID : 1053617
Date Of Request : 28/07/04
Requested Term : GFR Calculated Abbreviated MDRD
Read Code Version : V2
Explanation : Estimate of glomerular filtration rate calculated on the
basis of age, sex, ethnic origin and plasma creatinine within the laboratory
system as part of UE investigation. The full MDRD equation (ref Ann Intern
Medicine: 1999;130:461-470. Levey et al full MDRD) is more cumbersome to use
than this version in practice. The abbreviated equation ( J Am Soc Nephrol
2003;14: 2573-2580 Lin et al) is being adopted throughout the West Midlands
as an index of renal failure and to monitor change. Nephrologists are
proposing greater use of calculated GFRs. Results are reported
electronically to primary care and other clinical systems. Not to be
confused with isotpic GFR estimations. GPs are complaining about lack of
READ code to enable mapping. Essential to have seprate terms for Full MDRD
and Abbreviated MDRD as results are different. The use of these calculated
indices will increase nephrologists are encouraging their use within
secondary and primary care.
Response
Action Code : New concept added
Read Code : 451E.
Term : GFR calculated abbreviated MDRD
Status : Provisional response made, To be confirmed at Release
Author's Comments : On the advice of the PBCL Focus group, we have added
Caluclated abbreviated MDRD as it is anticipated this will be recommended by
the NSF

Bill

The reference can be found here

Is anyone charging the GP's for the e GFR result. I heard on the grapevine
they get remunarated at the rate of £5 for reporting that information?.
Cheers
John

Does anyone know the READ code assigned to eGFR for transmission to GP
systems and incorporation into their databases?
