medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I think this is called an ad hominem argument, avoiding the substance and dimissing it because of one's prejudgments regarding the author. It was my, perhaps untutored, impression that we critical scholars were trained not to make snap judgments of this sort.
"Safely ignored." It seems to me that the issues is whether or not this can be safely ignored. One might wish first of all to examine more carefully what is going on. For now, I will ignore ad hominem dismissals and take the matter under advisement.

It's by Mark Steyn. He's a Canadian who used to be a serious arts
journalist in the UK. At some stage it seems he underwent a neocon
Damascene conversion - apparently not unrelated to being a pal of Conrad
Black, possibly also from going to live in the USA. Anything he writes can
be safely ignored.
