The best thing we've done for staff engagement with the VLE is to support
our PGCL&T course through it for the last 5 years or so.
Nothing cutting edge - delivery of course materials, on-line peer
assessment and forums/communication.
However, most of the 30 or so staff that take the course come knocking at
my door within a few weeks of the start having experienced the simple
things such as getting at course materials at 2am on a sunday morning etc
and the part of the course that deals withs on-line learning . The words "I
wasn't sure to start with, but now I can see how I could use it with my
students" is a common start to the conversation.
The course now runs a Support and Admin strand (PGCLSA) - which I am taking
myself this year. This makes up the first year of an MA in Education which
is also supported with the VLE.
What better promotional tool than having the staff engaged as VLE using
students.
