Hello everyone
Since joining this email discussion group over a month ago, I've read a lot of emails on the commercial v open source argument, quite a few about integration with the MIS, some about the various VLE tools, but (surprisingly) very few about how VLEs are being used to enhance teaching and learning. By this I mean concrete examples of innovative practice that has improved the learning experience of students. I've found all of the above discussions really interesting, but I've just realised that in following them all I've become blinded by concentrating too much on a technical spec. rather than thinking about how to put a VLE to best use in an educational context.
My problem, coming from a secondary school standpoint, is that I'm about to begin 'selling' the concept of a VLE to staff. It really is going to be a case of how the VLE is going to improve teaching and learning. What will be the benefit to teachers of devivering course content through a VLE? And I'm not really talking about improved performance by pupils here, I'm talking more about the direct benefits to teachers such as saving time, reducing workload etc.
So come on everyone! What's the best thing that you've done with a VLE? I've got a few ideas of my own, but would be keen to hear from anyone with a bit of experience in what has to be the most important area of enhanced teaching and learning.
Hope to here from you.
Regards,
Andy Neil.
