Perhaps I could labour the point that the Sarum liturgy was a (secular)
Use - that is, a local variant of the Roman Rite. Another variant was the
simplified Use of the Papal Curia, which formed the basis of the Tridentine
Rite - that is, the standard form of the Roman Rite after the Tridentine
reform. Other Rites (Ambrosian, Mozarabic, Gallican) survived; it was
mostly the Uses (other than Monastic) that were swept away.
