Offertorium - 5b Ember Days - Ember Friday
The Introit Antiphon for Ember Friday in the third week of Advent is adapted
from Psalm 118:151&152, whose opening words 'Prope es tu, Domine' - Thou art
near, O Lord - are a sufficient justification for its use before Christmas:
A. Prope esto Domine, et omnes viae tuae veritas: Initio cognovi de
testimoniis tuis, quia in aeternum tu es.
The psalm verse of the Introit is taken from the first verse of the same
Psalm:
V. Beati immaculati in via: qui ambulant in lege Domini.
The Offertorium Response and Verse are taken from the Second Sunday in
Advent:
R. Deus, tu conversus vivificabis nos, et plebs tua laetabatur in te:
ostende nobis, Domine, misericordiam tuam, et salutare tuum da nobis.
(Psalm 84:7-8)
V. Benedixisti, Domine, terram tuam: avertisti captivitatem Jacob: Remisisti
iniquitatem plebis tuae.
(verse 2 and part of verse 3)
The Communion is not identified as a scriptural text. Perhaps Stan or some
other member can inform us about its origin:
Ecce dominus veniet, et omnes sancti ejus cum eo: et erit in die illa lux
magna.
There remains the Gradual. Its elements should be familiar by now:
R. Ostende. Ostende nobis, Domine, misericordiam tuam: et salutare tuum da
nobis.
V. Benedixisti, Domine, terram tuam: avertisti captivitatem Jacob.
