Dear Puzzled,
you may well be right, though i'm jiggered if i can figure out how or why
--none of them, *on that site*, worked for me, including the tinyurls.
i just assumed that it was a matter of the settings on the site's server
machine, since i had come across that particular setting on the machine which
hosts my own site.
but, that's apparently not the explanation.
since i work on institutional machines over which i have no control --nor even
the ability to see what sorts of settings there might be-- i can't imagine
what they could be.
however, i've seen the same phenomenon happen on various other of urls which
you have posted from time to time.
But, not all.
as you so eloquently put it, Curious.
