Brunel 200
Date: Wednesday 18th January 2006
2006 marks the 200th anniversary of Brunel’s birth and
Bristol is leading the country in celebrating this great
Victorian engineer. The British Empire & Commonwealth
Museum, which is housed in one of Brunel’s most
important buildings, has put together a fun and
informative day to help you make the most of this
special year. The day will cover all aspects of the history of
Brunel, his inventions and their effects upon the world,
and will include plenty of practical suggestions for work
both in the Museum and in the classroom.
Exploring citizenship in the curriculum
KS1 & 2: Wednesday 25th January 2006
KS3: Thursday 26th January 2006
This training day will tackle the challenges of teaching
citizenship in our culturally diverse society. The Museum
provides the resources for looking at migration, slavery,
racism and identity. You will take part in a radio studio
activity and look at ways of exploring citizenship through
art, role-play, storytelling and object handling. This
fascinating day is an excellent opportunity to gather new
ideas and take a fresh look at approaches for teaching
citizenship.
