An alternative scenario would be the 'whirlpool effect'.
Many science centres have this - the boat sits at the top of a still pool of
water. (The viewer looks from underneath)
Then it whirls. There are various ways of doing this.
Eventually it sinks. (Science centres are interested in this as an example
of Archimedes' Law ("Buoyancy = weight of fluid dislpaced") - because
actually it is air in the water which reduces its density, so that
eventually the bouyancy is less than the mass of the boat - however, it's
pretty dramatic even if you aern't interested in the science ...... but why
would anybody not be?)
