Applications are invited for a fully-funded PhD studentship, funded by the
Arts & Humanities Research Council, in the School of Arts, Histories &
Culture at the University of Manchester. The studentship, effective from
September 2005 (or as soon as possible thereafter), is linked to the AHRC-
funded 3 year research project, Performance, Learning and ‘Heritage’ - an
interdisciplinary project involving the School’s Centre for Applied
Theatre Research (CATR) and Centre for Museology. The successful applicant
will undertake research broadly within – or related to – the area of the
research project. There is a good deal of flexibility in the scope of the
research, and a practice-based approach will be possible if appropriate. A
background in performance studies, museum studies or cultural studies will
be an advantage. Informal enquiries about the project and potential
research topics may be made to Tony Jackson (project director, CATR) at
[log in to unmask] or 0161-275 3356. Formal applications should
be submitted by 7 September 2005.
Applicants should have a good upper second or first class degree in a
relevant subject, and, preferably, an MA (or equivalent) by October 2005.
They should meet the AHRC requirements for UK/EU residency.
Further information about the studentship, the application procedure and
graduate study in the School can be obtained from the SAHC website at
http://www.arts.manchester.ac.uk/postgraduatestudy/feesfunding/phdstudentsh
ip/. Applications may also be made on line at this address.
