JOB TITLE: Education Marketing Officer
REPORTS TO: Head of Education
HOURS: 38 per week working 5 days in 7 (some out-of-hours work will be
necessary in relation to the demands of the post and will be remunerated by
time off in lieu)
SALARY: £16-£20k according to experience and qualifications
RESPONSIBLE FOR: student/volunteer placements as required
Overall description of job
The British Empire & Commonwealth Museum has an opportunity to offer a new
post of Education Marketing Officer within the Education Department.
The Education Marketing Officer will work alongside other members of the
Education Department to develop and deliver a marketing programme to
maximize the number of educational visitors and oragnized pre-booked group
to the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum and to promote its activities as
widely as possible. This will involve direct liaison with schools and other
educational groups both by telephone and face-to-face contact. The post
holder will be expected to seek PR opportunities, and place educational
advertisements in conjunction with the PR and Marketing Department.
Key tasks
The role will include:
Developing a strategy to maximize the marketing efforts of the Education
Department
Setting targets and working to deliver key numbers of educational visitors
to the Museum through school and college liaison
Promoting the work of the Education Department at external events/shows and
conferences
Promoting leisure visits (including holiday activities and birthday parties)
within schools, colleges etc. and marketing to organized groups including
special interest adult groups
Specific responsibilities include:
To market visits and activities to schools to maximize group bookings
To develop and maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the Museum¹s
education product (the exhibits, workshops, trails, events etc), including
the key curriculum links
To work with the Education Department and Booking Administrator to ensure
accurate information and systems are in place to ensure quality visits from
time of enquiry to actual visit
To work with the Education Department and Booking Administrator to ensure
that all Front of House staff have sufficient understanding of the product
to market it effectively
To analyse visitor patterns and feedback in order to help the Education
Department continually improve the product
To handle first line enquiries for prospective visitors at the Bookings
Administrator¹s request
Working with the Education and PR and Marketing Departments, to develop and
deliver education marketing action plans, including mailouts, promotions,
and preview events
To maintain an education contact database to provide up-to-date and useful
information
To format education materials for presentations, distribution and marketing
purposes, including via the web site
To take bookings (this is not the core part of the job, as there is a
specialist bookings administrator, but the post holder would be expected to
be capable of taking bookings and must have a thorough understanding of the
offer and the bookings system)
To be alert to press, listing and advertorial opportunities and to provide
ideas for generating PR
The post holder will be expected to have a good knowledge of schools and the
curriculum, especially history and humanities, citizenship, art and drama.

Knowledge of the needs of a range of student ages and subject disciplines

present materials to a high standard.
