Dear all
It's late Friday afternoon and I am beginning a new piece of work.....! But when it's the quietest the office has been all week....
I am planning to draw up some guidelines for the selection and management of a handling collection (e.g. are handling objects part of the main collection or are they deaccessioned, are they given a separate numbering system perhaps one starting with an L, how many identical objects do you have before you will release one for handling, do you have a distinction between handling objects and ones you show as "look but don't touch" objects?). I have searched the list but the references seemed to be to the learning value of handling objects rather than this more "how to choose and manage" aspect.
Any examples of other museum's guidelines would be much appreciated.
Enjoy your weekends
