Dear Anders,
I think we are talking about different things here. The reference change
value relates to the change in serial results, taking into account
biological variation and analytical variation. This change may be up or
down. I believe the formula given is the one published by Callum. I
borrowed the example from his book to illustrate the use of the RCV in
practice. Hence the reference.

It is not quite obvious but if you look carefully - and shouldn't you? -
Jim Westgard, Carmen Ricos and Callum Fraser report the TE at the 95%
confidence level. To fit the formula you are using their values need to
be divided by
1,65 since a one-sided decision is supposed to be made.
