Of course everyone knows that engineers drive trains!
David Kelley routinely tells the story of trying to explain what he and
IDEO do at cocktail parties...
"I'm a designer."
"Really? Let me show you my new curtains!"
The United States Department of Labor's definition of designer includes
hair stylists.
Having just returned from a meeting where people were splitting hairs
over titles, it seems silly to assume that any one group has claim on
the title or that commonly heard stories about a few pompously bad eggs
should be interpreted as indictments of entire sub-fields of design.
At the end of the day, are not all those that engage in
"design," regardless of what their title is, trying to improve the
quality of life and the world we live in?
