Kelvin Lake mentions Harworth, in North Nottinghamshire. During my visit
to Harworth in 1990 (see the article in Mining Magazine, November 1990,
pp340-344, attributed to colliery staff) I looked out of an office window and
could see the headframe of another mine in the distance. I asked which
colliery that was
"Oh, that's Maltby," said my guide, "that's in Yorkshire. We don't talk to them!"
As they were adjacent pits working the same seams, to different boundaries
on different seams, I thought that pretty remarkable.
