Hi there
This is a message all the way from New Zealand! I work as Learning
Programmes Manager for an art museum called The Dowse in Lower Hutt, New
Zealand. We develop and show exhibitions on everything from jewellery to
hip hop, furniture to fashion. We are currently planning a redevelopment of
our building and we plan to close for a year beginning June 05. We would
like to continue our education programmes during the closure and I wonder
if anyone has ideas for, or experience of this kind of thing. Our main
market is school children 5 - 18 years. We will not have access to the art
collection. We have thought of things like taking groups to visit an
artist's studio or studio furniture manufacturer; commissioning artists to
make work showing the process of their art production which we can then
take to schools for outreach programmes; and hiring a space off site to run
art workshops. I would interested to hear any other ideas!
Thanks in anticipation
Sarah Bourke
