Silver Surfers' Day - 21 May 2004
Silver Surfers' Day is a series of events that will be held across the UK on
Friday 21 May 2004 as part of Adult Learners' Week. It aims to give older
people in the UK, who have not previously used a computer, a 'taste' of what
email and the Internet are all about.
The Silver Surfers' Day initiative is managed by an organisation called
Hairnet UK Ltd - a specialist IT training company that focuses on enabling
the 'hard to reach' from Britain's elderly population, and those lacking
confidence or experience in information literacy, to use IT.
Hairnet UK Ltd have been running Silver Surfers' Day events since 2002 and
are very keen to use more museums, libraries and archives as venues for
hosting these events, so if you work for an organisation that is interested
in supporting this initiative, please log on to the Silver Surfers' Day
website at www.silversurfersday.org to find out how to register as an event
holder.
Hairnet UK Ltd provide a Resource Pack for Silver Surfers' Day event holders
that contains advice on all aspects of running the day, handouts for Silver
Surfers, useful websites and advice on accessibility.
