Dear All.
'Education Outside the Classroom'
I would have thought that GEM would be responding to the Education and
Skills Committee on this one ? I'm sure individual case studies wouldn't go
amiss.
Myself and my project consultants were working with a group of teachers
last week to consider new programmes we are creating for Creative Science
at Killhope - these were all highly skilled and enthusiastic teachers well
aware of and open to working outside the classroom - but everyone is still
confused by and wary of Health & Safety and Risk Assessments - and just a
couple of days ago on the news the NASUWT teaching union repeated their
advice to their members NOT to lead any out of school activities - in case
someone gets sued.
Are other people finding this an issue? Are your visiting teachers confused
by the requirements? Are schools no longer visiting you because of H&S and
Risk Assessment? What advise are your LEAs issuing to their schools?
I'm happy to collate and share reponses.
Cheers!
