With regard to Jim's last point about making all members of his committee
have a CRB disclosure, I think it's a sensible policy in principle. But I
would be careful in many cases - I know of one charity that had a policy of
running enhanced checks on all staff, regardless or not of whether they had
regular contact with children as part of their job. I believe it transpired
that such checks run on staff who did not have such contact were actually
illegal, and thus had to be stopped.
A case of checking the fine print in all Clauses?

I've really enjoyed the contributions on this subject. However, just a quick
warning: if, on some later occasion, your FC is investigated for child abuse
(at another location, perhaps years ago) YOU will also come under scrutiny
as to whether you did everything in your power to ensure the children's
safety.
Writing as someone who is a trustee of a children's charity (Leicester
Children'sa Holiday Centre, Mablethorpe) we have decided that all members of
the committee should have a disclosure. Then we can say we did everything we
could. It only takes a few weeks to organise. Think of the peace of mind.
Best practice is always best
