Hi
We have had a recent episode of spuriously raised ammonia with a paediatric
sized KEDTA tube with a pink top favoured by our haematology colleagues.
There is no manufacturer's name, just what looks like a small T in a circle
logo. We routinely use the 2 ml Greiner purple top KEDTA tubes without
apparent problems and found some of the paediatric sized variety, also
purple top, tubes in a drawer which were also OK when tested. We have now
ordered more of the same so I am a little disturbed to think that there is
some sort of batch to batch variation in this respect- does this extend to
the larger tubes? Does anyone know the origin of the contamination?

Subject: Ammonia sample tubes
Dear All,
Our hospital is changing over to using Greiner collection sample tubes
shortly. I understand that some batches of Greiner tubes (Paediatric EDTA)
are not ammonia-free. Does anyone else experience ammonia-contamination
with Greiner tubes? Do you assay a blank tube with sample?
