I've just had an overwhelming sense of deja vu. Wasn't
this exactly how we used to progress staff in "the old
days" before we all got excited about degree only
entry for BMS staff?
There was a recent excellent article in the Biomedical
Scientist on NVQ3 courses for MLAs. I for one have
several MLAs who are capable, enthusiastic and willing
to learn, but for various reasons do not find the four
year degreee route at all attractive. I would welcome
any approved alternative course that would enable good
MLA staff to get onto a career ladder. When most labs
are bemoaning the fact that they cannot get qualified
BMS for love nor money, this could well help to
alleviate what is rapidly becoming a staffing crisis.
