Education& Outreach Officer
The Sussex Archaeological Society requires an Education and Outreach Officer
to be based at Barbican House, Lewes in East Sussex. This is a permanent
post based on a 5 day week, Monday to Friday, for 40 worked weeks in the
year.
The Education Officer will take the lead role in delivering the educational
service for our three Lewes Properties at Lewes Castle, Barbican House
Museum and Anne of Cleves House Museum. The education sessions delivered
will include talks, artefact handling, role-play, guided tours and practical
workshops. We have a small team of part-time education assistants who assist
with the delivery of the education services when necessary.
You will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills and
considerable experience of teaching children, ideally in a museum / heritage
environment. You will need a good standard of education (including English
and Maths at minimum Grade 3 GCSE or equivalent), plus, ideally, a degree or
equivalent in a relevant subject. Some experience of managing staff combined
with good organisational and budgetary skills are also required. You will
also need a good standard of computer literacy and be a car owner with a
clean driving licence. The appointment will be subject to enhanced
disclosure with the CRB.
