Education and Outreach Assistant

Salary 22 to 25K (including London weighting) maximum 3 year contract
An exciting opportunity in the newly created Postal Heritage Trust formed
from the Archive and Museum of Royal Mail. Our registered museum and public
record archive collections range from sheets of penny blacks and1930s
films, to mobile post offices and telegrams from the sinking Titanic.
The Person
· Postgraduate qualification in Museum Studies or Archives, teaching
qualification or equivalent
· Experience in creating exhibitions and outreach projects using
archive or museum collections
· Excellent interpersonal and team working skills
· Knowledge of applicable legislation, standards and UK market
· Current drivers licence preferable
Job Description
We are looking for a highly motivated person to assist and help maintain
and develop a programme of interpretative, marketing and outreach
activities, to promote the use of and improve access to our heritage
collections. This will be an expanding area of the Trust, which is hoping
to develop on a new London site by 2007. This person will:
· Develop a marketing programme for our events and services
· Develop and implement communication plan
· Maintain and develop website content
· Work on exhibitions and displays based on the archive and museum
collections
· Assist in developing and implementing outreach and education
programmes, including oral history and object handling boxes
· Maintain evaluation of current users, and programme of events and
exhibitions
· Assist Outreach Manager in other suitable activities
22.5 days holiday plus public and bank holidays. 37 hours a week, flexible
between 8.30am and 5.30pm. Some weekend work required.
