Hi, All
I've just been asked by our microbiology colleagues if the serum separator gel in our Starstedt Monovette tubes may be absorbing gentamicin. Our (usually on-the-ball) pharmacy department had remarked that patients' gentamicin values were lower than might be expected. They have added gentamicin calibrator solutions to the tubes and demonstrated a reduction of about 1 mg/ml from an expected value of about 8 mg/ml (Abbott TdX analyser). Is this a 'known' effect? I couldn't find anything on PubMed.
