medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Saint Etheldreda blinded a Viking who tried to interfere with her tomb.
Saint Radegund kept an uppity maid who tried to sit in her throne glued to
the red-hot seat for three days.
Many saints do unpleasant things to people who interfere with their relics,
shrines, etc. Hunegund of Homblieres made all the stalks in the local
harvest bleed because the peasants were reaping it on her feast day instead
of going to church. She was a real winner who also struck a knight through
the groin when he pursued the seduction of one of her nuns.
