Hello Cate, We did an SF promotional day a few years ago. We invited Colin
Greenland to come and do some writers workshops and readings. I have to
say the turnout wasn't great but , it was a Sunday (before our Sunday
opening began). I thoroughly enjoyed it. He brought books along for
people to buy as well. The writers workshop was brilliant. I can
definitely recommend him. Of course Terry Pratchett would be the go-to man
these days, and he does like to support libraries.
I've listed a few websites below that you may either like to put as links
from your promotional page or even contact for promotional/display
material.
http://www.bsfa.co.uk (British Science Fiction Association)
http://www.liv.ac.uk/~asawyer/sffchome.html (Science Fiction Foundation
Collection - of books)
http://www.andromedabook.co.uk (excellent Science Fiction book shop -
based in Birmingham)
http://smof.com (Science Fiction Conventions Listing)
http://www.Interaction.worldcon.org.uk (World Science Fiction Convention,
Glasgow 2005) (This is a literary convention and anyone who is anyone in SF
circles will be there).
Hope some of this helps.

Hello
I'm hoping to set up a science fiction promotion & dispay later on this
year. The aim is to raise awareness about sci-fi amongst non-readers, and
to increase interest in this often overlooked genre. I've toyed with the
idea of getting the library PN website to provide a temporary link to a
promotional web-page, and getting some eye-catching standups & posters to
attract people's attention as well as the usual book information & display.
I would be interested to hear of other experiences & suggestions. Also,
has any library authority ever tied in an authors' event with a science
fiction promotion? And was there a good turnout for it?
