medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear list,
i'm trying to work up a decent description of a rather curious Xth c. image,
one of the very few which survive (this one only in a photograph, after the
1944 fire) from pre-12th c. Chartrain sources :
http://www.ariadne.org/centrechartraine/mss/chartresmss/ms577f8-te.jpg
from what little i can make out of his vestments, i take the fellow to be a
priest : there seems to be fringe on the ends of his stole(?)
can anyone, less vestmentally challenged than i, make out more of what he
might be wearing, and what to call it/them ?
many thanks,
christopher
