medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Dear Laura,
As far as entering the church is concerned, you might consider the
inscriptions included on Romanesque church portals, which are often
directed at those entering the church. See Calvin B. Kendall, The
Allegory of the Church: Romanesque Portals and their Verse
Inscriptions (University of Toronto Press, 1998), for analysis and a
very useful catalogue of inscriptions.
