But seriously Cliff, I don't know the precise answer to your question. But
don't panic just yet, as it wasn't a vote at all, at least, I don't believe
it was. I believe they were simply canvassing the level of support within
the specialty before considering whether to put it on the BAEM agenda for
more serious consideration, so to speak. Nevertheless I suspect that if the
"vote" came back with an equivalent result or with a weak "majority" then
this would delay such discussions for another few years. Conversely if there
was a lot of support I believe it would still be up to BAEM Council to make
the final decision. However I'm not an expert on BAEM constitutional
matters, but I suspect they don't need a "referendum" as such to make this
kind of change, although I may be wrong about that. In any case, if you're
very concerned, I would suggest you hassle JH over it, now that you're
practically neighbours again!
