You could review back copies of Japanese Car Styling Magazine which features detailed articles on design process for product and vehicle design in each issue.
They are a little pricy.

2 well known design firm examples are IDEO and SONY. 2 recent books
outlining comprehensively their design process have been published. You
should find them on Amazon.com if you place these words in the title search,
but if not I can send you them when I get back to my office.
Best,
Paul

Subject: design process research in professional practice
Dear colleagues,
I am looking for references and cases where design firms (architectural
or industrial design preferrably) have carried out research of a design
process in their practices; and utilized the findings as a feedback for
their further processes/activites.
The aim of the research may vary, and the way the research findings have
been used may vary; the important aspect for me is that the research
will include an anlaysis of some aspect of the design process (eg. the
evolution of the design product during the process; research related to
communication of multiple team members; analyis of value systems of
designers during the process; strategies used at negotiations with
clients; comparison of the different phases/stages of the process in
terms of priorites etc.) and that this research will have been used to
actually improve the future practice(s)of the firm, thus being
integrated into the practice. The delivery of the research to the
`wider` audience is also crucial; whether it is presented in form of a
lecture, report, or communicated only to certain actors who utilize the
findings in their own particular practices etc.
I would welcome any references--published books/articles/websites, as
well as sharing of experiences of such cases.
You can reply on or off list and I will eventually aim at compiling the
responses to share with the list.
Thank you,
