Sorry - forgot to explain who IMLS are!
They are the Institute of Museum and Library Services, are Federal-funded, and in many ways similar to Resource in the UK, though there is no ready equivalent of DCMS.

Subject: multicultural museums in the USA?
Hi all,
I'm hoping to get the States next year for a research trip, to look at how they are representing & working with multicultural societies.
I have some ideas of places to go but can you help?
Have you been to any really interesting/innovative museum type places in the states?
Have you heard of any?
Can you suggest American organisations/people who would be good contacts over there?
Many thanks,
Jane Sarre
