The British Library's forthcoming "Explorers" website will contain an
animated presentation (including sound) that acts both as a general
introducion to what the library is for and as an inspiration to young
learners to explore the world's knowledge.
I am looking for a scriptwriter or writers capable of creating an
entertaining introduction to different kinds of knowledge contained in the
British Library's collections. It needs to be somebody who is a broad
generalist, capable of connecting philosophy to philately and cosmology to
common sense - and avoiding fallacies in so doing. The writer needs a solid
base of learning, especially in the history of ideas, but unconventional
ways of looking at issues that cause "Eureka!" moments in a general
audience. They will also need to be willing to undertake research in the
Library's collections.
The writer will create several short scripts, each based around a different
kind of knowledge (e.g. private knowledge, revelatory knowledge, numerical
knowledge) - employing characters and thinking up novel visual ways of
presenting mind-expanding ideas. I especially want to make sure that the
presentation is humorous (not whimsical), arresting and maybe even memish -
as well as informed and accurate. We are looking to have research and a
completed set of scripts done by mid-March.
Candidates should ideally have a background in drama for young people or be
published authors in the interpretive field. Please feel free to pass this
on beyond the list.
