Ross asked regarding film festival comedy, and I can't answer his broad
questions about why it is rare, but can say that last year's Grand Prix winner
at Cannes -- The Man w/o a Past by Aki Kaurismaki -- was both "serious" and
hilarious. I saw it (again) last night with a large and varied crowd, who all
seemed to agree (there was a lot of laughing out loud), and lots of comments
afterwards on the power of the film.
